A common, yet embarrassing and sometimes painful problem golfers run into is hitting behind the golf ball. This is known as a fat golf shot and is commonly caused by rocking during the time of the swing. Though this shot isn’t counted among the seven most dreaded golf shots that include:

(a) Pitching over a deep sand trap;
(b) Hitting over the water;
(c) In between wedge shot;
(d) First hole tee off;
(e) Fairway sand shot;
(f) Downhill four foot putt and
(g) Next shot after a shank,

But fat golf shots can be discouraging none the less, causing golf players to want to know how to stop hitting fat golf shots.

Hitting fat shots still, is not a very rare event for beginners who try to blame their irons for hitting the ground instead of hitting the ball. So do not get disappointed if you end up hitting a fat golf shot, there are many other beginners out there who do this quite a bit as well.

Hitting fat shots has got very little to do with the clubs actually the problem is for the most part in transferring body weight and/or incorrect posture. Also fat golf shots have little to do with your swing. For most fat golf shot cases the club hits the ground behind the ball, causing you to chunk the ball. Even though it’s embarrassing, it can be a fairly easy problem to cure.All you need to do is keep them in mind to stop hitting fat golf shots.

Here is a way you can stop hitting fat shots and it is described in a step by step way, which will help you solve the problem.

1.) Start in your set-up position.
2.) Take the back swing and keep it up at the top.
3.) Begin moving your hips toward the target and watch how your back shoulder dip is affected.
4.) Fix your shoulder dip till you do not come down to behind the ball.
5.) The problem is solved and there will be no more fat shots.
6.) To keep from hitting fat shots, lessen your shoulder dip

Keeping the lower body out of swing movement is the key to avoiding this problem forever. Why don’t you begin your downswing with the arms instead? It can be difficult to break swing habits, even simple ones such as shoulder dips, but once you change and practice it, things will start to become natural.If you keep your hips still, this weight shift may still occur, but in a more or less natural way
Keep in mind it is also critical to keep your front shoulder down allowing you to maintain your swing on the right plane. Besides, it will also help the hands synchronize with your body. However, make sure that the shoulder does not come up and go away from the target prior to the impact as otherwise your body will invariably go before the hands and this would naturally cause fat shots.

“Whenever I see an old lady slip and fall on a wet sidewalk, my first instinct is to laugh. But then I think, what if I was an ant, and she fell on me. Then it wouldn't seem quite so funny.”
